AMTRAK NORTHEAST CORRIDOR
Laser Scanning and Mapping

3-D laser scanning to produce base mapping for sections of the Northeast Corridor trackside wi-fi network. Scanning enabled surveyors to set up away from the tracks and also pick up crucial design elements such as height and sag of catenary wires, location and height of catenary and signal supports and other ancillary equipment not easily surveyed by traditional methods. The use of scanning technology also minimized time required on the right-of-way thus saving significantly on the deployment of Amtrak safety crews. Approximately 50 sites have been surveyed to date. Client: Maverick Construction
